What is ARDS
Massive shunting phenomenon –> thus no response to oxygen. Results in pulmonary edema secondary to increase in alveolar permeability (as opposed to hydrostatic force changes as seen in cardiopulmonary edema)Dx: -Hypoxemia refractory to oxygen-Bilateral diffuse pulmonary infiltrate on CXR-No evidence of CHF (i.e. PCWP =< 18)
