Most common cause of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) ?,”Diabetes is the most common cause of CKD and end-stage renal disease (ESRD) requiring dialysis in the US. Risk factors for diabetic nephropathy (DN) include poor glycemic control, elevated BP, cigarette smoking, increasing age
and ethnicity (black and mexican-american). Most patients also have evidence of retinopathy or neuropathy. DN typically occurs 10-15 years after the onset of type DM1 or DM2. Hyperglycemia leads to microvascular damage (microangiopathy). Clinical findings include mild to moderate proteinuria and CKD with elevated creatinine.”
