Giardiasis?,”Giardiasis is caused by the organism, Giardia lamblia, common in areas where sanitary conditions are poor. The various modes of transmission are food-borne, water-borne or person-to-person. The organism causes malabsorption. The most common symptoms are foul-smelling stools, fatty stools, bloating, flatulence, nausea, malaise
and abdominal cramps. These symptoms are usually of chronic duration. The treatment of choice for giardiasis is metronidazole.”
