Explain the extensor mechanism from proximal to distal,”Extensor digitorums tendon. As it goes distally right before the MCP joint. Fibers go out 90 degree angle. That is the hood. It comes all the way around and attaches to anchored to the volar plate. That is important. Hood is anchored to the volar plate. Would shift all over if it wasn’t. Off the hood, the fibers that go straight down the PIP and go into the base of the middle phalanx is the central slip. Off the sides of the slip

coming down and crossing posterior and lateral to the PIP and crossing more posterior to the DIP and inserting into the distal phalanx are the lateral bands. There are transverse fibers that hold the lateral bands in place and keep them relatively posterior. Posterior to the joints. Lateral and posterior to the DIP. Form as one and then go into the distal phalanx. Those are the lateral bands.”
