Explanation
To complete this lab:
- Connect the phone port on the DSL router to one of the phone ports on the wall outlet.
- Plug in the DSL router using the power adapter.
- Connect the computers to the router’s integrated Ethernet LAN ports using Cat5e Ethernet cables.
- Install a DSL filter on the other phone port on the wall outlet.
- Disconnect the phone from the VoIP ATA and connect it to the DSL filter.
Complete the following steps:
- To install the DSL router, expand the Routers category on the Shelf.
- Drag the DSL router to the Bench (preferably next to the existing router).
- Switch to the back view of the DSL router.
- To connect the router to the phone line, expand the Cables category on the Shelf.
- Select the twisted pair cable with RJ-11 connectors.
- In the Selected Component window, drag a connector to the RJ-11 port on the router.
- In the Selected Component window, drag the other connector to the phone port on the wall outlets.
- To plug in the router, switch to the back view of the existing Ethernet router.
- Select the power connector on the existing Ethernet router and drag it to the power port on the DSL router.
- To connect the Home-PC to the DSL router, select the Ethernet cable on the existing Ethernet router’s port 3 (i.e., the third Ethernet port from the left), and drag it to an open Ethernet LAN port on the DSL router. (LAN ports are the first four ports on the left of the router.)
- To connect the Home-PC2 to the router, repeat step 10 for the Ethernet cable connected to switch port 4.
- When implementing DSL, you must install a filter between the phone port and each phone. On the Shelf, expand the Filters
- Select the DSL filter.
- In the Selected Component window, drag the connector to the other phone port.
- To connect one of the analog phones to the DSL filter, switch to the back view of the VoIP ATA device.
- Drag the phone cable from one of the VoIP ATA’s phone ports to the DSL filter.
- To confirm that Home-PC is properly connected to the SOHO network and Internet, click the Windows icon on the monitor on the left.
- Click the networking icon in the Task Bar and select Open Network and Sharing Center. The diagram should indicate an active connection to the home network and the Internet.
- Repeat steps 17 and 18 to confirm the connection for Home-PC2.
